Cats are naturally clean creatures and given the right tools will naturally use a litterbox with no coaxing. Cats have a natural instinct to use a sandy area to eliminate. They want to dig a hole, eliminate and cover.
There are certainly cats who have inappropriate elimination issues, but typically this is not because of them. It is because we do not fully understand their needs. When you add a kitten to your home they usually come ready to use the box because their mom and litter mates have already taught them. This is learned as early as 3 weeks of age.

Catnip is a perennial herb and member of the Mint family Labiatae. It is native to Europe & Asia and most recently became a wild plant in North America. Catnip is also known by the following names: Catmint, Catnep, Catrup, Cat's Heal All, Cat's-play, Cat's Wort, Catswort, Garden Nep. People often add cat nip to their kitty condos or cat condos.
