Cat Scratching Tips

1. Have you clipped the cats nails? Keeping nails short can help from destroying your sofa. Any vet or groomer can show you how to clip the nails. Or you can schedule a trip to the groomer every two weeks. At first your cat may not like the process but after a while everything becomes routine.

2. Some folks swear by Feliway. This is a product you can purchase online or in pet stores. It is a naturally occurring pheromone that calms the cat. It come sin a variety of uses including spray, plug in or a small spritz bottle for a lounger or condo.

3. Have you give Bach's Rescue Remedy a try? This product has essential oils that are used to calm humans and animals. There is a specific blend for animals that has no alcohol.

4. Ever heard of Soft Claws? Soft Claws work like a sheath. Using super glue you place the claw sheath over your cat's claw and it will grow out naturally in about 2-3 weeks. They even come in many colors!

Before you reach a last resort turn to a Cat Behaviorist. These are people that are trained in the psychology of cats. They will interview you, observe the cat and come up with a plan for success.

Whatever you do, please do not declaw your cat. Declawing is a gentle word for the amputation of the cat's first joint. It is painful and can result in other cat behaviors that you definitely do not want to deal with.
